El Paso Concealed Carry Holder Thoughts on Open Carry

OpenCarry

On January 1, 2016, Texas’s Open Carry law took effect. Individuals in possession of Conceal Handgun License (CHL) with either a belt or shoulder holster may open carry in Texas at all “non-restricted” area (schools, court houses, airport and businesses posted 30.07 signs and other locations listed in the law).

There are many committed Second Amendment and gun-right advocates took thia opportunity and open carried. I am happy to observe as of this writing, there were no adverse incidences to report.

On a personal note, like most Texas CHL holders, I will not be open carry anytime soon. My primary reason for chose not to open carry is lost of the surprise, a critical tactical advantage when it comes to self-defense. For example, I believe that if one open carry at a bank, one’s probability being the first person eliminated when gun-wielding robbers burst into the bank will increase significantly. Tactically, a better alternative is to concealed carry and do not draw the pistol until IT IS ABOSOLUTELY NECESSARY! For me, the “ABOSOLUTELY NECESSARY” means the robbers are killing people. Otherwise, I will comply with the robbers and be a good witness.
